Blade runner

The register has a story about the future of blade computers. They are reporting that due to proprietary designs and the relative newness of blades there will be a connection created between the blade customer and the manufacturer. This connection, really more of a marriage, will mean that unless you completely replace your blade enclosure and associated peripherals you will need to buy from the same manufacturer.

What they don’t mention is that the manufactures already do this some. The racks are a little different, you can’t buy rails for this device and so on. It’s not a new problem just and new version of the same old problem, no standards for the external connections and dimensions.
