As I drove into work today I was listening to the latest windows weekly and the discussion about advertising on TV and media. Comments were made about the morals in advertising and truthfulness. Advertising has never been about morals or truth, just getting you to remember a brand and buy it when you need it.
Specifically the Apple ad poking fun at Microsoft spending millions on advertising and supposedly not on OS upgrading. Apple can’t truthfully know Microsoft budget, but the ad makes you think that Microsoft is not taking care of it’s customers, note the irony, an ad poking fun at advertising.
It is not odd for ads to state the obvious or exaggerate values, milk with 50% less fat (2% versus 4%). We have all seen these before. Computer advertising is not different. They ave both accomplished their mission. You and I are talking about and remembering the brand Apple and Microsoft.
