Just what the iPad ordered

0

I have this problem, I have 4,000 plus tracks of music and want to get a 16gb iPad. I can tell you it won’t fit there! What if I had lala installed on my server? I could just just use lala.com, check my recent plays list, but then it will interfere with other down load access. I began to think, hey I have this thing the internet, maybe someone has had this problem before. I did some looking and found Sockso, an open source java based music server that gives you search, play list and browsing of your collection. It is simple to setup and use. I had it in place and serving up my collection in 10 minutes. I set up a test at work and forced it to only allow registered users to access my collection.

One of the features I find brilliant is that ability to select how you will play your music. On your local web page you can select from seven different ways to play including a pop-out flash player or a play list download for your default player. Sockso can also change the encoding of your must, if needed.

I think this is the answer to using your music at home, or remotely if you open a path through your firewall, on your iPad or netbook.

Microsoft fires one over the bow

0

In an article by Paul Thurrott, he talks about a test, run at Sophos, that points to Windows 7 still being vulnerable to 80% of the virus’s tested. Microsoft responds to Sophos pointing out that it was never claimed that Windows 7 would not need an antivrus solution. In fact Microsoft recommends that you get a antivrus solution as part of you system protection strategy.  As talked about in the article, I believe this is bogus test announced just to reinforce the Sophos name as an antivirus solution.

Here is the post that started it all.

Below is the comment I posted at the Windows IT Pro article.

The reason this is a bogus test and brings the trust of Sophos in to question is that they are stating the obvious as a revelation. Mush the same way other companies state the norm as a feature. An example of that is the milk you buy. The low fat milk with 50% less fat, this is they went from 4% in the mix to 2% in the mix. The bigger number makes you feel like it is less.

Stating that a new operating system is still vulnerable to a system compatible virus is like saying the new baby is still able to get sick. You still have to give the baby antivirus shots and still have to take care of it.

As for prepackaging an antivirus solution, that would be great, until some European entity opens yet another lawsuit about unfair business practices.

Blu-ray at $150 By Christmas

Publishers settle with Google for book scanning. Christian Science Monitor dropping print edition and going all digital. Cloud computing in the news to an extreme. Windows 7 having embedded features. Could this mean “instant on?” Blu-ray players hitting $150. I have my thoughts on the problem. Wal-Mart on the Google Android phone bandwagon.

GE Getting Back into the TV Biz

Android phone news never-ending. I’m sick of it. Hadron Collider shut down until the Spring because it is too cold in Switzerland. Email hacker continues. Creative Suite 4 rolled out by Adobe. GE getting back into the TV business with Internet-ready TV with Blu-ray. Xohm to roll out in Baltimore. I’m baffled about sharing books online. Lots more blog according to experts. Passport snoop might be thrown in jail. Windows 7 getting a head start on ruination. Cell phones to be recycled. Start-up helps your find what you are not looking for. What? I already get that.
